Managing the Aftermath of a Critical Incident at Your Park, Presented by: Tyler Anderson

  • It’s been both a fun and busy season – until today. You’ve been notified that there was an “Incident” at your facility. CPR is in progress and EMS are on the way. Are you and your team prepared to handle the fast pace of a response while ensuring that compassion and empathy are displayed at the forefront of everything you do? Come discuss some critical do’s and don’ts following a crisis event that will help you minimize legal exposure while simultaneously helping your team through perhaps one of the scariest things they have ever dealt with.

Critical Incident Stress Management Overview for Aquatic Leaders, AOAP Directors School

Lifeguards and aquatic management teams have long faced stressful work environments. In addition to cumulative daily stress, lifeguards and allied support staff may be regularly exposed to traumatic events and life-threatening situations that can take a toll on mental health. This presentation introduces concepts to help aquatics organizations better prepare lifeguard teams for the darker realities of the profession. Come review common methods first responders use to combat stress in the workplace. Learn steps you can take to help mitigate this stress with your team and when to engage appropriate outside resources when a critical incident does occur. This presentation will help aquatics professionals, health & regulatory officials and those who supervise aquatic facilities understand mental health resources that should be available to lifeguards and aquatic management in the aftermath of a critical incident and to coordinate a response using Critical Incident Stress Management resources.

NIRSA & Idea World 2026 Conference & Expo

Come meet ILCIRAs leadership at the NIRSA & Idea World 2026 Conference & Expo Exhibit Hall.   Join us at the conference to explore how resilience training, Peer Support and Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) can be woven into the fabric of your aquatic's organization. At our booth, we’ll walk through practical, scalable ways to build internal peer teams, integrate programs like Resilience First Aid into existing training, and create a structured post-incident support pathway that actually works in the real world—not just on paper. Whether you’re just getting started or looking to strengthen what you already have, we’ll help you design approaches that fit your size, budget, and culture while honoring your duty of care to those who protect others every day.
